LLAMAS OF THE BLUEGRASS

Meet some of our 29 llamas!

Our farm is in the Bluegrass of Kentucky, in Scott County, just north of Lexington.  Our farm land is hilly with limestone rock outcroppings and lots of large trees for shade---truly perfect llama land!

What do you do with llamas?  We hear this question a lot.  The best answer we have is that all our llamas have a "value".  Almost all of them contribute to our fiber harvest each spring. We have fine herdsires, from a senior grand champion to some beautiful youngsters, providing lots of crias (baby llamas) .  All our llamas contribute rich fertilizer.  We have a couple of geldings that are so good at PR work we made it their fulltime job.  We take them to parades and festivals to spread the word about what wonderful animals llamas are.

Our llama fiber is getting rave reviews from the Kentucky Wool Fiber Mill, supplying spinners, knitters and crocheters with wool prized for its true color and heat retention (llama fiber is hollow, a natural insulator).  We show our best young animals all over the USA.  People raising goats and sheep are glad to get guard llamas to protect their livestock.  People use llamas as pack animals (they don't tear up the ground with their footpads), companions for other animals and people, and raising them bestows certain notable tax advantages on the owner.

But mostly what we do with our gentle, intelligent llamas is ------

                                           ENJOY THEM!!
